지금, 성장통을 겪고 있는 엄마입니다만 (이하 지성엄) 책은 밀키베이비의 첫 책입니다. 엄마들은 출산과 동시에 나 자신을 사라지는 경험을 합니다. 절망적일 수 있는 이 경험이, 인생의 전환점이 되어 주었다고 작가는 말합니다. 엄마가 되고 나서 나는 누구이고, 어떻게 아이와 잘 살아가야 할지를 다시 고민할 수 있었기 때문입니다. 육아툰, 인스타툰의 주인공은 대게 '아이'지만 이 책은 '엄마 자신'에 포커스를 맞춥니다. 밀키베이비라는 이름으로, 여성이 엄마가 되면서 겪는 희노애락의 감정들과 생각의 편린을 수년간 웹툰으로 기록했고, 책 지성엄은 그 중 양육자들에게 가장 사랑받은 웹툰으로 구성되어 있습니다.

아이와 따로 또 같이 인생을 배우는 중

초저출산 국가에서 '양육자'로 살아남는 것은 여전히 고된 일입니다. 아이를 낳고 기르는 것을 후회한 적 없지만, 육아와 동시에 나의 일을 찾고 이어나가는 것은 힘겨운 일이었음을 고백합니다. 80년대에 태어난 여성으로서, 전통과 사회가 정의하는 '엄마'를 끊임없이 부정하면서 여성이자 나 자신으로 존재하고자 애씁니다. 디자이너로 직장 생활을 하면서, 밀키베이비라는 브랜드를 만들고, 아이 밀키도 잘 키우고 싶은 작가의 성장기는 이 땅에서 아이를 키우면서 내 일도 하고 싶은 '당연한' 욕구를 가진 이들에게 용기와 영감을 북돋아 줄 것입니다.

Was Motherhood Really This Hard?

Now, I'm a Mom Going Through Growing Pains (hereafter referred to as The Book) is the first book by Milky Baby. Mothers experience a loss of self upon giving birth, and this experience, which can be hopeless, was a turning point in her life, says the author. Becoming a mom allowed me to rethink who I am and how to live well with my child. While parenting videos and Instagram videos often focus on the child, this book focuses on the mother herself. Under the name MilkyBaby, I've been recording the emotions and thoughts of women as they become mothers through webtoons for years, and the book is composed of webtoons that have been most loved by mothers.

Learning life with a child separately and together

Surviving as a "parent" in Korean society with an ultra-low birthrate is still a struggle. While I've never regretted having and raising children, I confess that it has been a struggle to find and continue my work while raising children. As a woman born in the 80s, I struggle to exist as a woman and myself, constantly defying tradition and society's definition of 'mom'. The author's journey of working as a designer, creating a brand called MilkyBaby, and raising her child, Milky, will provide courage and inspiration to those who have the 'natural' desire to do their work while raising a child on this earth.
